"Writing Around the World: How Travel Can Inspire Your Work"

with Leilani Barnett

Leilani will explore the link between writing and travel, place and setting. Participants will try their hand at creating a fool proof sentence that captures place by borrowing a technique from author Tom Robbins and hear about the ways travel has affected Leilani's life and her writing.

Leilani Barnett is a writer, speaker, educator, and traveler. She works as a curriculum writer for Dallas ISD and teaches literature at El Centro College. Her writing has appeared in English Journal, The Raven's Perch, Perceptions, and other publications. Leilani holds a Bachelor's in English and journalism from Texas A&M University-Commerce, a Master's in literature from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a Master's in educational leadership from the University of Alabama. She is currently completing a Ph.D. in curriculum and teaching. She is completing her first novel, Y'all Holler, and a travel guide for writers titled Stalking Seamus Heaney.

The Writers Guild of Texas presents Guest Speaker / Program meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Basement Program room of the Richardson Public Library. Visitors are welcome to attend.
